Exploravista, a tranquil retreat nestled in the verdant heart of Jicaral, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is a creation that embodies the essence of NeoArchitects’ vision—a vision I have poured my heart into with every detail meticulously crafted. This intimate resort is a harmonious tapestry woven from the threads of tropical architecture, the enduring building techniques of the Guanacaste region, the communal traditions of the Chorotega people, the profound cosmovision of the Brunca, and the ethereal influence of Latin America’s magical realism, a cultural force that shapes our daily lives in this vibrant region. It is also a deeply personal project
The foundation of Exploravista is deeply rooted in the traditional building practices of Guanacaste, a region where architecture has always been a dialogue with the land. Natural stone, sourced from local quarries, anchors the structures to the earth, creating a sense of permanence and reverence for the landscape. These stone elements are not merely functional but symbolic, representing the enduring connection between the people of Guanacaste and the natural world that sustains them. Expansive open spaces and large overhangs, hallmarks of tropical architecture, ensure natural ventilation and shade, keeping the resort comfortable in the warm Costa Rican climate. The overhangs, crafted from locally harvested timber, extend far beyond the walls, creating sheltered, intimate areas where guests can feel protected while remaining immersed in the lush surroundings. This seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living is a cornerstone of the design, allowing the breeze to flow freely and the sounds of the surrounding forest—chirping birds, rustling leaves, and distant streams—to become part of the experience.
